ALEX AYERS |
Following professional dance training, Alex gained a first class honours degree in Dance Studies from the University of Surrey. She earned a scholarship from the Arts and Humanities Research Board to undertake MA study at the Laban Centre for Movement and Dance, and graduated from there in 2001 with Distinction.
A series of lectureships at the Laban Centre, the University of Surrey, Roehampton and University College Chichester followed, where Alex taught dance technique, choreography and later, Pilates.
Alex trained with the Body Control Pilates Association (BCPA), qualifying in 2003 as a Matwork Pilates Instructor. Since then she has successfully run group classes in Forest Row and Shoreham-by-Sea. Having gained Studio Certification, Alex joined the rehabilitation team at Bridgeham Clinic. She also works in liaison with osteopaths in Shoreham and surrounding areas.
Holding a genuine interest in patient welfare, Alex’s career development courses have included exercise referral for spine pathology, pelvic torsion, shoulder impingement, cervicogenic headaches, women’s health, pregnancy and Pilates with Children. Alex is recognised as a formally qualified Pilates teacher on the Register of Exercise Professionals, having fully met the requirements of the new UK National Standard for Pilates and is classed at Level 3, Advanced. She is currently training at the London School of Sports Massage to further her clinical skills. |
